Technically speaking, TENCEL™ Lyocell is a fiber derived from sustainable wood sources that has been harvested from certified and controlled forests. It’s recognized around the world for its environmentally friendly closed loop production process that transforms wood pulp into cellulosic fibers with high resource efficiency and low ecological impact. Importantly, this process recycles and reuses more than 99% of the process water and solvent it uses.
Comfortably speaking, TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are known for their natural softness and versatility. They are often combined with a wide variety of textile fibers to enhance their aesthetics and functionality. While often seen in apparel, we chose to blend our GOTS certified organic cotton with TENCEL™ Lyocell so our customers would benefit from the additional benefits the fiber provides. As a result, our organic bedding has a smooth, soft and a cool-to-the-touch feel that wicks away moisture so you can sleep comfortably.
Fiber-wise, TENCEL™ Lyocell is naturally resistant to bacteria growth, meaning it’s gentle on sensitive skin and less susceptible to unwanted bacteria. The unique properties of this durable fiber also provides long-lasting softness, strength and enables breathability—which is good news if you’re a hot sleeper, because this material won’t trap that unwanted heat.
And in regards to sustainability, resource preservation is key to TENCEL™ Lyocell production. TENCEL™ is mainly made from sustainably grown eucalyptus and blended with other hard woods that are managed on farms without the use of pesticides in the soil or chemical fertilizers. To top it off, TENCEL™ fibers are certified as compostable and biodegradable, meaning they will actually revert back to nature one day.
