We sat down with JJ Walsh, the founder of Formula Fig, a technology driven facial bar, to talk about her nightly bedtime rituals.

Double, Queen, or King? 

King, but it’s almost too big - I lose my husband. Being British I’m used to a small European double - cozy ;)

Why is a good night’s sleep important to you? 

The difference in my ability to function is dramatic. I didn’t fully realize how much my lack of sleep affected by output. It is my number one focus for my health right now.

How many hours of sleep do you get a night—or at least dream of getting? 

Going from a 4-5 hours a night, 2023 is all about 7 hours.

Are you a dreamer? 

Big time. Day and night.

What’s currently on your bedside table? 

Large bottle of water. A stack of books (I tend to have at least one of the following - an easy read, an inspirational business book - Trillion Dollar Coach, by Eric Schmidt, and one more culturally relevant). A Vitruvi humidifier. A facial mist. ASYSTEM sleep gummies. A few things by Maude.

Do you partake in any nightly routine before settling into bed? 

I’m very formulaic in my bedtime routine - consistency works. It gets changed up, but the fundamentals are always the same.

No screens. Until recently I had the phone right next to my head, laptop under the bed. Reading emails ormessages late at night, spiking cortisol, mind racing, emotions raging - it was not sustainable. Now allcommunication devices are out the bedroom.

Skincare. A very thorough skincare and supplements routine. I have added in recently Epi Logic Master Plan.  Serum - I can notice the difference in skin luminosity. This is the time of day I test new skincare products.

Tell us about where the magic happens—and by magic, we mean sleep. How do you optimize your sleep environment? 

Well….I am a huge advocate for how our environments affect our behaviour/mood. The 5 senses need to be addressed!! Especially in the bedroom.  One of my top ten feelings is sliding into my clean, neatly made bed, knowing I have a decent amount of shut eye ahead of me, as that delicious feeling of sleep takes over.

If you feel a restless night coming on, is there anything you do to help get you through the night without waking? 

Try not to panic.  ASYSTEM Sleep Gummies. A note pad to write down all the items frustrating me.  Open a window - I love a cold bedroom.  And if none of it works, read my kindle.

What kind of pillows do you use to keep your head in the clouds? 

I’m in the throw pillow/multiple pillow camp. Different pillows for different purposes, reading, sleeping, propping up a body part.

Last but not least, what is your number one piece of can’t-sleep-without advice? 

Consistency is key!
