Lights Out with Paume

Sleep, wake, repeat.  Read all about how our friends optimize their surroundings, unwind, and relax the mind for a good night—every night.

We sat down with Amy Welsman, the founder of Paume—luxurious, sustainable essentials for your hands—to talk about her nightly bedtime rituals.

  • Double, Queen, or King?

  • King. My husband and I are both tall people and we have a weiner dog who basically takes up as much room as a third person!

  • Why is a good night’s sleep important to you?

  • I have always deeply valued a good night’s sleep. When I’m well rested, I’m sharper, more productive, and better able to manage the demands of being a mother and business owner! I need all the help I can get, and zzz’s are essential.

  • How many hours of sleep do you get a night—or at least dream of getting?

  • Prior to having children, I was getting a luxurious 9 hours a night, but these days I’m lucky to get 7!

  • Are you a dreamer?

  • Yes. Figuratively and literally :)

  • What’s currently on your bedside table?

  • A baby monitor, my phone, a scented candle, a good book (though I haven’t read much in the last few months sadly), lip balm, and a giant water jug to stay hydrated in between night feeds with my newborn.

Do you partake in any nightly routine before settling into bed?

I always have a hot bath before bed. It’s a glorious 20 minutes where I get to be alone, relax and unwind. I love the feeling of jumping into a cool bed after a hot bath. Heaven!

  • Tell us about where the magic happens—and by magic, we mean sleep. How do you optimize your sleep environment?

  • I’m a really light sleeper, so in order to create the “magic” of a good night’s sleep, I need complete darkness and white noise.

  • If you feel a restless night coming on, is there anything you do to help get you through the night without waking?

  • If I’m really having difficulty turning my brain off and unwinding, I find a little melatonin goes a long way.

  • What kind of pillows do you use to keep your head in the clouds?

  • I’m incredibly picky about my pillow, as I have a very sensitive neck. I’m one of those weirdos who travels with their pillow! I need it to be thin, super firm, and made of memory foam.

  • Last but not least, what is your number one piece of can’t-sleep-without advice?

  • No matter how busy and chaotic your day gets, try to allow yourself the time for your bedtime routine. Whether it’s a hot bath, an evening skincare routine, or devouring a chapter of a good book, we all deserve to indulge in a bedtime routine and a good night’s sleep.
