Sleep, wake, repeat. Read all about how our friends optimize their surroundings, unwind, and relax the mind for a good night—every night.
We sat down with Amy Welsman, the founder of Paume—luxurious, sustainable essentials for your hands—to talk about her nightly bedtime rituals.
King. My husband and I are both tall people and we have a weiner dog who basically takes up as much room as a third person!
I have always deeply valued a good night’s sleep. When I’m well rested, I’m sharper, more productive, and better able to manage the demands of being a mother and business owner! I need all the help I can get, and zzz’s are essential.
Prior to having children, I was getting a luxurious 9 hours a night, but these days I’m lucky to get 7!
Yes. Figuratively and literally :)
A baby monitor, my phone, a scented candle, a good book (though I haven’t read much in the last few months sadly), lip balm, and a giant water jug to stay hydrated in between night feeds with my newborn.
Do you partake in any nightly routine before settling into bed?
I always have a hot bath before bed. It’s a glorious 20 minutes where I get to be alone, relax and unwind. I love the feeling of jumping into a cool bed after a hot bath. Heaven!
I’m a really light sleeper, so in order to create the “magic” of a good night’s sleep, I need complete darkness and white noise.
If I’m really having difficulty turning my brain off and unwinding, I find a little melatonin goes a long way.
I’m incredibly picky about my pillow, as I have a very sensitive neck. I’m one of those weirdos who travels with their pillow! I need it to be thin, super firm, and made of memory foam.
No matter how busy and chaotic your day gets, try to allow yourself the time for your bedtime routine. Whether it’s a hot bath, an evening skincare routine, or devouring a chapter of a good book, we all deserve to indulge in a bedtime routine and a good night’s sleep.
